Household Uses of Muriatic Acid

Muriatic acid is one of the names used for hydrochloric acid or HCl, which is a potent strong acid. You can buy this acid at a home supply store, among other places. In the United States, industrial-grade muriatic acid is 30% to 34% hydrochloric acid. You can buy 10% to 12% acid for home cleaning. In the United Kingdom muriatic acid is sold as "Spirits of Salt" at around 10%-12%. For most applications, it's a good idea to further dilute the acid with water.

Do you use muriatic acid as a household cleaner or for another use around the home? If so, what do you use it for?
